Parallel Plate Capacitor refers to a capacitor consisting of two parallel metal plates with a dielectric filling the space between them. When there is a potential difference (voltage) across the conductors, a static electric field develops across the dielectric that causes the positive charge to collect on one plate and negative charge on the other plate.

An electric circuit element that is used to store charge temporarily, consisting in general of two metallic plates separated and insulated from each other by a dielectric. It is also called as condenser.

Example:
Calculate the capacitance for the parallel plate capacitor for the given details.
Permittivity (ε) = 10 F/m
Area (A) = 25 m2
Separation Distance(s) = 20 m

Solution:
Apply formula:
C = εA /S
C = 10*25/20
C = 12.5
Capacitance(C) = 12.5 F
