Average Calculator is a mathematical tool that helps to determine the average/mean of a large data set that contains either “positive, negative, or decimal numbers”.

What is an average?

If the sum of all values is divisible by the total number present in the given data set then obtained the average of the data which is also known as the mean of the given data.

It is also known as the arithmetic mean of the numbers while simply saying the “mean of the numbers”.

The mathematical formula of the average is stated as,

               Average = Sum of all values / No. of Values

How to find the average of a data set?

Consider the below examples to understand how to find an average of the data set.

Example 1:

Find the average of the given data set “13, -13, 12, 13, 20, and 15”.

Solution:

Step 1: Write the given values by the above data set.

Number of value = 6,                 Values = {13, -13, 12, 13, 20, 15}, 

 Average =?

Step 2: Putting all values in the average formula after simplifying gets the required results.

Average = Sum of all values / No. of Values

              = {13 + (-13) + 12 + 13 + 20 + 15} / 6

              = {13 -13 + 12 + 13 + 20 + 15} / 6

              = (60) / 6

Average = 10

Example 2:

Determine the average of the given data set “19, 1.5, 1.7, 20, and 10”.

Solution:

Step 1:  Arrange the values from least to greatest number and write the number value from the above data set.

Number of value = 5,                Values = {1.5, 1.7, 10, 19, 20},       

 Average =?

Step 2: Putting all values in the average formula after simplifying gets the required results.

 Average = Sum of all values / No. of Values

               = {1.5 + 1.7 + 10 + 19 + 20} / 5

               = (52.2) / 5

Average = 10.44
